INT. THE SERVICE STATION OFFICE
BRETT leads BILL inside. We can see STEVE DAYTON outside, fueling
trucks at tne side pumps.
Iím all right--
Sure. Heroes always are.
Now just sit still. I want to get a cold
cloth on your head.
He sits down in the chair, BRETT wets a rag in the little bathroom
down the side of the office. BILL Is in a semi-daze.
Isnít a comet. Itís a broom.
BRETT (comes back)
What are you talking about?
Say youre a race of aliens looking for
a new place to live...say you're looking
for a new planet like you or me might
look for a new house. You dig it?
BRETT sits down beside him and puts the cloth on his head.
So here's Earth. Only it's like a
big old house no one ever took care
of. It's dirty and smoky and polluted.
Grease on the walls...soot in the chim-
neys...so they send in their interstellar
housecleaners...send in their broom...
and sweep it clean.
BILL closes his eyes. He's going to sleep. BRETT looks at him, fi-
nally understanding what he's getting at. Sheís chilled.
BILL eyes closed)
It's a broom.. using our own machines
to sweep.. sweep us right off...
Heís asleep. She sits looking at him.
EXT. THE DIXIE-BOY DUSK
The trucks are still lined up at the pumps. In front we can see
the 4TH PATRON pumping away.
EXT. A CONCRETE PIPE DUSK
This is the pipe DEKE couldnít get into. A hacksaw is working on the
mesh. As we watch, the circle is completed and the mesh falls out.
DEKE, STEVE GAYTON, JOE. MAX, and HANDY come out with rocket
launchers, a couple of packs filled with food.
SCRAPPING SOUNDS of someone approaching through the pipe and then
CURT and the 6TH PATRON emerge with more stuff. They pile it on.
