This is the car which beiongs to those cute little newlyweds, CURT
and CONNIE. It's really smoking--doing seventy, eighty miles an hour.

INT. THE FURY, WITH CURT ANO CONNIE

They're both scared and bewildered. CURT looks over at:

INT./EXT. THE OTHER HIGHWAY LANES, CURTíS POV

Another loooooooong convoy of trucks, crusing along the interstate.

INT.	THE FURY

                            CONNIE
                  Where are they going?

                            CURT
                  Don't knew. Greensboro, maybe.
                  Maybe Charlotte.

                            CONNIE
                  Why?

                            CURT
                  Dunno. Try the radio again.

She leans forward to turn it on, and sees something through the wind-
shield and reacts with sudden terror.

EXT.	THE ROAD UP AHEAD, CONNIE'S POV

A 1952 red Mack flatbed pulls out of the bushes and across the road.

INT.	THE FURY

	                 CONNIE (shrieks)
               LOOK OUT!!

CURT jerks the wheel.

EXT.	THE FLATBED AND THE FURY

The Fury swerves into the emergency lane, squirting between the
guardrails and the nose of the truck trying to block them off like
an agile tailback lunging through a gap at the last possible moment.
The trucks nose smashes through the guardrails a second too late.

INT.	THE FURY

                           CURT
I think I just loaded my pants.

She's looking back over the seat and through the rear window,
paying no attention.

                           CONNIE
It's coming after us! Curtis, it's
                 coming after us!

CURTíS eyes look up toward:

INT. THE REAR-VIEW MIRROR, CURT'S POV

The flatbed backs up, a snarl of guardrail cable caught in its
grille like broken strands of piano-wire, and turns.

EXT. THE FLATBED TRUCK

It starts up the road after the fleeing car, moving slowly at
first, then gaining speed.

INT.	THE FURY

CURT steps on it

EXT.	THE FURY AND THE FLATBED TRUCK

The chase is on.

INT. THE CAB OF THE FLATBED

Empty

INT. THE FURY, WITH CURT MD CONNIE

                          CONNIE (screams)
                WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?

EXT.	THE FURY AND THE FLATBED

Will they? The flatbed is closing in. The terrain is flat, and the
truck has a lot more go under the hood than the Plymouth.

INT./EXT. EXIT SIGN, CURT AND CONNIEíS POV

It says the exit is a mile up.

EXT./INT. CHASE MONTAGE

The truck Is steadily closing in on the Fury as they cover the mile
to the exit. As the exit comes up, the truck pulls into the pass-
ing lane and starts to draw abreast of the car. Then it cuts in.

CURT and CONNIE are jolted to the right. CURT holds onto the wheel
grimly, gauging the distance to the upcoming exit ramp...

The truck crunches them again, crimping in the carís side and driving
it toward the energency lane and the ditch beyond. Hereís the exit
ramp at last!

INT.	THE FURY

                             CURT (twists the wheel)
                   Hang on!

EXT.	THE FURY AND THE FLATBED TRUCK

The Fury almost turns over...tben decides to stay on all four of
its wheels. It scoots up the ramp. The truck tries to follow. It
misses the ramp and runs up the brushy incline instead.

EXT.	THE TRUCK, SLOW MOTION

It overbalances on the slope and crashes back to the highway. Its
engine is howling and snarling like a teast in pain. As it hits
the highway, the cab bursts into flame.

EXT.	THE TOP OF THE EXIT-RAMP, WITH THE FURY

Thereís a FOOD-FUEL-PHONE sign which points, of course, toward the
Dixie-Boy.

	                     CONNIE (crying)
                   Curtis, what is going on?

                             CURT
I donít know. But I know we can call
the police from that truck-stop up
                   there.
